How Korean pharmacists actually approach women's care

What Koreans reach for at the pharmacy before booking a clinic visit — vaginal probiotics, gentle cleansing, period pain and PMS, all on one page.

Pharmacist's key points

The counselling points Korean pharmacists give most often to women.

Balance comes before washing

The vaginal environment is naturally mildly acidic, and it feels most comfortable when that stays undisturbed. Washing more often isn't the answer — keeping the balance is. That's why Korean pharmacists usually suggest a vaginal probiotic before they suggest a wash.

Health functional foods are talked about over 2–4 weeks of consistent use. This isn't a next-day product.

With a feminine wash, look at what's left out

More fragrance or more ingredients doesn't mean better. A wash that leaves out potential irritants like fragrance and menthol, and holds a mildly acidic pH, is the easiest one to use daily. External area only, once a day is enough.

Internal douching can disrupt that balance instead of helping. Gentle, external only is the rule.

Take period-pain relief early, not heroically late

It's easier when you take it as the pain starts rather than at its peak. If bloating shows up alongside the cramps, a formula that pairs the painkiller with a diuretic ingredient covers both at once.

Avoid an empty stomach and follow the stated dosage. If the pain is unusually severe or long-lasting, see a doctor.

PMS is managed all month, not just that week

Bloating, irritability and poor sleep before your period are hard to fix in the same week they appear. The common Korean approach is steady, everyday support with magnesium and B vitamins. Cutting caffeine and salty food just for that week also makes a noticeable difference.

Many people take magnesium in the evening. Start with a smaller amount at first.

During your period, breathability matters as much as absorbency

Even the best product feels irritating when things stay damp and compressed. Look at airflow and dryness, not just absorption. Absorbent period underwear is reassuring for overnight, and changing often is the basic rule for daytime.

When trying a new product, test it for a short stretch before wearing it all day.

When your body is off, simplify your skincare too

Skin getting reactive around your period is completely normal. Pause the strong steps — exfoliants, retinol — and keep only three: cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen. Skin settles faster that way.

Not sure what your skin needs right now? The skin test below gives you the steps for your current state.

How to use it

If you're starting from scratch, this order alone is enough.

Daily
One vaginal probiotic capsule. Timing doesn't matter much — taking it at the same time each day is what makes it stick.
In shower
Mildly acidic wash, external area only, once a day. No scrubbing — rinse gently and dry fully.
D-3
Magnesium and B vitamins shouldn't start here — they should already be routine. Just dial back caffeine and salt for this week.
Period
Take relief at the first signal. Change often during the day; absorbent period underwear for a worry-free night.
After
Once skin calms down, bring exfoliants and retinol back — one step at a time, not all at once.
